New to using github, how do I contribute a bugfix

I've got some fixes for scripts/add-recipe.lua, but I don't know how to use github, or if there's any particular "should do" or "should not do" for dfhack here. Does anyone have any pointers or know a non-chatbot tutorial I could read?
