SDK could use some upkeeping

Hi Fern and Vapi team :)

Trying to use the SDK and lots of downstream issues are caused by relying on expo version 50, and an old version of react-native.

Would also be great to get a better starter repo example using expo from the vapi team.

If I have some later this week I will try to make a PR to improve the sdk.

Exactly! I have spent 2 days fighting with dependency issues left, right and center. I had to download the template and get it to work to be sure I am even on the right path. Now going back to my project with their recommended "exact" versions and every other thing is conflicting. Already reconsidering using VAPI because this isn't a good experience, this was supposed to be a 30 mins thing and i have spent more than 14 hours solving issues.

So I contacted the team and they are working on it. They said it would take a while but it's being worked on. I built on the old sdk before the update using expo ^50. I can find the template for that and send share a repo if you want that. You'd have to be careful with installing libraries though but it a temp work around for me.

was before the update, I just followed the instructions for expo and it worked for me. I have since done so much modifications but I don't remember falling into any major issues at the time. Currently i get a message to update daily.co but it works

gotcha! I also tested that template but couldn't get it to work yet unfortunately. It also tells me that I have to update the daily package, but for me it doesn't work because when I start the call, it crashes—the app crashes. I followed every step though. Thank you for your help! (I downgraded to expo 50, and the correct react native version yet it still doesnt work)

I am little busy today. But tomorrow I'd upload another one and just give you instructions on how to run it. Would you like the template to use expo tabs or just a bare home page?

thank you so much! can I have both please? thanks so much. been trying to debug again and again rn unsuccessfully. there is always another error even if I am exactly at the described version packages :(
