Jackson Bopp

Computer Engineering student at USF, graduating December 2026. I like working where hardware meets software: firmware, protocol work, and the test tooling that proves a system actually does what it says. I'm volunteering with the City of Winter Haven on server hardware and AI hosting, and I'm open to relocating.

Outside of that: reading, gaming, cats, anime, and Magic: The Gathering.

Projects

MCTP-over-I2C endpoint · C99, RP2040, Python, Docker An RP2040 firmware endpoint that speaks MCTP over I2C (DMTF DSP0237), the protocol BMCs use to talk to the components they manage, with a Raspberry Pi acting as bus owner. The framing and message logic are tested in CI in both C and Python, with golden vectors to check the two match byte for byte. Hardware bring-up on a real Pico is next.

I2C target controller verification · Verilog, cocotb, Verilator, SVA A Verilog I2C target with a cocotb testbench: a bit-banged I2C master model, constrained-random tests against a reference model, functional coverage, bound SystemVerilog assertions, and mutation testing to check the tests catch real bugs.

Testbench · Next.js, TypeScript, Python, MQTT, PostgreSQL A hardware test platform. Microcontrollers send JSON over UART to a Raspberry Pi bridge, which publishes over MQTT to a dashboard that runs tests, tracks results, and flags regressions between firmware versions. Reference firmware for MSP430, ESP32, STM32, RP2040, and nRF52840 (Zephyr), plus a simulator so CI runs the whole pipeline without hardware.

Radiology Second-Opinion Agent · Python, FastAPI, Docker, MLflow Four-person hackathon team; I was the data and MLOps engineer. A vision model flags findings on chest X-rays, a LangGraph agent pulls similar cases and literature, and an LLM writes the report. I owned model serving, its tests, MLflow tracking, and drift monitoring.

Team hackathon projects: VoiceLegacy (frontend lead, Hackabull) · Edward (desktop voice assistant, IBM Bob hackathon) · UrbanEye (map search, OpenStreetMap data, CSV export)

Open source

  • PlatformIO #5503 (merged): the device monitor crashed on piped input; it now exits with a clear error and has a regression test.
  • CodeConstruct/mctp #178 (merged): added an Alpine/musl CI job to catch portability breaks.
  • TinyGo #5623 (in review): locks the timer queue when a timer is reset, fixing an unsynchronized write.
  • FreeRTOS-Kernel #1488 (in review): guards xTaskCreate() stack allocation against size_t overflow.
  • vLLM #57399 (in review): omits system_fingerprint when fingerprint mode is off.
