This PR was opened by the Changesets release GitHub action. When you're ready to do a release, you can merge this and publish to npm yourself or setup this action to publish automatically. If you're not ready to do a release yet, that's fine, whenever you add more changesets to release/2026-11-04, this PR will be updated.

Releases

@moonshot-ai/kimi-code@2.5.0

Minor Changes

  • #4621 1b13934 Thanks @Grapedge! - Allow /model and /effort while the agent is working; a turn that has already started calling the model keeps its settings, the switch applies from the next turn, and choosing Compact and continue runs after the current turn ends.

  • #4544 e24e1e1 Thanks @sailist! - Add support for forking running sessions and forking from a selected historical turn.

  • #4520 3ed0e68 Thanks @liruifengv! - Merge skills from every configured directory in multi-directory projects, with the primary directory taking precedence on name conflicts.

  • #4062 5f3ab5f Thanks @7Sageer! - Add creation-time SSH, Docker, and custom-command environments; use --environment <id> and optionally --environment-cwd <path> when creating a session.

Patch Changes

  • #4606 011b1d4 Thanks @wbxl2000! - Send each agent's run status, settings, context usage, goal and todo list over the server WebSocket as agent, usage, goal and todo frames; transcripts and the REST transcript endpoints no longer include meta or todos.

  • #4540 4b58a0c Thanks @RealKai42! - Fix sessions sometimes still appearing in session lists right after being archived.

  • #4543 2d674cf Thanks @7Sageer! - Speed up remote file reads, edits, writes, search, and completion.

  • #4525 8019337 Thanks @liruifengv! - Improve plugin marketplace interactions.

  • #3733 990580d Thanks @gfunc! - Fix 400 "Invalid max_tokens" errors for models imported from a custom registry (api.json) by recording each model's advertised output token limit.

  • #4627 a5724dd Thanks @Grapedge! - Show steered messages faded until the agent reads them, including across turns, instead of at full intensity immediately.

  • #4541 3a0b86e Thanks @7Sageer! - Fix ACP initialization failing when clients send the first request during startup.

  • #4543 2d674cf Thanks @7Sageer! - Fix searches failing on dot-only filenames, completion exceeding its timeout, and false directory warnings.

  • #4600 1401bdd Thanks @7Sageer! - Fix local file tools in existing desktop sessions after upgrading.

  • #4516 be89803 Thanks @RealKai42! - Stop building the global full-text search index by default, so POST /api/v1/search reports the index as unavailable and past sessions are no longer scanned in the background; set [database] global_search = true or KIMI_CODE_GLOBAL_SEARCH=1 to turn it back on.

  • #4477 02d2e8f Thanks @kimi-agent-bot! - Show backend model error messages verbatim, stop inferring quota from message wording, and require decoded model errors to carry explicit retryability for retry policies.

  • #4643 42cb675 Thanks @pvzheroes125! - Fix cancelling one MCP sign-in attempt interrupting another.

  • #4470 8535bd7 Thanks @wbxl2000! - Remove the server's WebSocket subscribe / unsubscribe frames with their cursor replay and resync_required, GET /sessions/{id}/snapshot, and the session last_seq field; subscribe to sessions with subscribe_v2 and send it again after reconnecting. event.session.work_changed now reaches every connection for every live session.

  • #4532 7cd571a Thanks @RealKai42! - Fix model refresh reporting custom registry providers as updated when nothing changed.

  • #4609 fc3b521 Thanks @7Sageer! - Stop requiring Edit and prohibiting Bash sed for incremental file edits.

  • #4535 ebc2a9f Thanks @wbxl2000! - Remove the REST task endpoints (GET /sessions/{id}/tasks, GET /sessions/{id}/tasks/{task_id}, and the :cancel / :detach actions); use the WebSocket task frames and the task.stop / task.background requests instead.

  • #4418 e3efbb9 Thanks @7Sageer! - Remove [secondary_model] force, which is now ignored with a warning: a lone default_model still pins every subagent to that model.

  • #4606 011b1d4 Thanks @wbxl2000! - Remove GET /sessions/{id}/status and the status field of the :undo response; read the main agent's state from the WebSocket agent and usage frames instead.

  • #4418 e3efbb9 Thanks @7Sageer! - Stop offering Agent and AgentSwarm subagents an implicit primary choice that ran them on your current model and thinking level, and hide the model choice entirely when [secondary_model] names only one model; list two or more aliases in [secondary_model.models] to choose again, noting a listed main model uses default_effort and does not follow /model switches.

  • #4526 8a5a430 Thanks @pvzheroes125! - Refresh available tools during the current turn after MCP authentication or other tool changes.

  • #4465 89e07b8 Thanks @kimi-agent-bot! - Show background task notifications while their resulting turn is running.

  • #4659 b5f14f7 Thanks @wbxl2000! - Fix the first side chat answer sometimes showing the main conversation's answer or disappearing.

  • #4658 e9de788 Thanks @wbxl2000! - Fix side chat history dropping or reordering earlier turns after the server reloads a session from disk.

  • #4507 5fc3de8 Thanks @JochenYang! - Keep long-running subagent cards responsive as the streamed output grows.

  • #4554 aeeaba8 Thanks @YD-233! - Show the invalid workspace directory path instead of silently exiting during TUI startup.

  • #4535 ebc2a9f Thanks @wbxl2000! - Stream a task's output over the server's WebSocket with task.watch / task.unwatch, and stop a task or move it to the background with task.stop / task.background.

  • #4535 ebc2a9f Thanks @wbxl2000! - Send each agent's running tasks over the server WebSocket as a task.list frame followed by a task frame on every change; transcripts and the REST transcript endpoints no longer include tasks.

  • #4606 011b1d4 Thanks @wbxl2000! - Fix the todo list not reverting after undo.

  • #4524 47a518e Thanks @RealKai42! - Remind the agent to update its todo list after 10 steps without an update instead of 5, and tell it that no update is needed while the list still matches its progress.

  • #4515 df7efe9 Thanks @liruifengv! - Fix @ file mentions to include files from additional workspace directories.

  • #4535 ebc2a9f Thanks @wbxl2000! - web: Improved interactions and fixed known bugs.

  • #4649 75f35b0 Thanks @7Sageer! - Show the remote working directory in the welcome panel and the remote repository's git status in the footer when using a remote environment, update the web and desktop pull request badge right after switching branches, never run a git or gh executable located inside the opened folder when reading git status, and stop leaving a "Ready." line in the transcript after startup.

  • #4517 7d72ae3 Thanks @sailist! - Set [workspace] require_trust = false to skip workspace trust prompts.

P1 Badge Publish the removed server APIs under a major version

This 2.5.0 release contains the removals listed at lines 41, 47, and 51: the legacy WebSocket subscription protocol and several REST endpoints used by external desktop/web clients. An existing client paired with the upgraded CLI server can therefore receive 404s or fail to subscribe, despite the package version advertising only a backward-compatible minor update. Obtain the required approval and use a major bump, or retain a compatibility path for previous-release clients.

P1 Badge Remove the retired snapshot contract from both API references

Before publishing this removal, update the public references: docs/en/reference/server-api.md:638,659,663,960 and the mirrored Chinese lines still document GET /sessions/{id}/snapshot and last_seq, even though this release explicitly removes them. Desktop/web integrators following the current reference will call a nonexistent endpoint and expect a field that is no longer returned.

P1 Badge Update the quickstart to use subscribe_v2

When users follow the documented minimal server flow, docs/en/reference/server-api.md:107-134 and the mirrored Chinese section still send type: 'subscribe'; this release removes that frame, and the WebSocket handler silently ignores it, so the example never receives the promised prompt events. Update both quickstart examples and their event-flow description to use a valid subscribe_v2 payload before publishing.

P1 Badge Remove obsolete event replay guarantees from the API docs

This release removes cursor replay, but docs/en/reference/server-api.md:2438,2455 and the mirrored Chinese lines still claim event frames carry seq / epoch / volatile and that durable events are journaled, replayable, and recoverable through a snapshot. The current EventEnvelope contains only type, session_id, timestamp, and payload, and missed global events are not replayed, so desktop/web integrators following the documented recovery algorithm will wait for fields and replay behavior that never arrive. Update both references to distinguish transcript-op catch-up from non-replayable global events.
