[aw] No-Op Runs #5530

Description

@github-actions

This issue tracks all no-op runs from agentic workflows in this repository. Each workflow run that completes with a no-op message (indicating no action was needed) posts a comment here.

What is a No-Op?

A no-op (no operation) occurs when an agentic workflow runs successfully but determines that no action is required. For example:

  • A security scanner that finds no issues
  • An update checker that finds nothing to update
  • A monitoring workflow that finds everything is healthy

These are successful outcomes, not failures, and help provide transparency into workflow behavior.

How This Helps

This issue helps you:

  • Track workflows that ran but determined no action was needed
  • Distinguish between failures and intentional no-ops
  • Monitor workflow health by seeing when workflows decide not to act

Tip

To stop a workflow from posting here, set report-as-issue: false in its frontmatter:

safe-outputs:
  noop:
    report-as-issue: false

This issue is automatically managed by GitHub Agentic Workflows. Do not close this issue manually.

Issue #5508 is a pull request, not a user issue. The triggering comment (ID: 4783143049) is from andyleejordan (MEMBER), a maintainer reporting they fixed the indentation UI bug identified in review. No Needs: Author Feedback label is present, no duplicate was claimed, and no user fix-confirmation applies. Per section G: comment is from a maintainer → no action taken.

Stale Issue Closer — Intelligent Triage

Stale issue triage run complete. Reviewed 20 oldest open issues (updated 2018–2019) against closure criteria. Closed 0 issues, kept 20 open. Reasons: (1) No issues have Needs: Author Feedback label older than 90 days — only #5485 has that label and was last updated 11 days ago. (2) No clear duplicates of closed issues identified. (3) The closest external-blocker candidate (#1517, here-string intellisense) referenced microsoft/vscode#58619, which was closed as completed (fixed) in April 2020, not declined — the blocker was removed, making #1517 a still-valid pending enhancement. (4) No feature requests have explicit maintainer out-of-scope explanations. All 20 issues kept open per conservative guardrails.

Issue Comment Handler — Intelligent Response Processing

Comment #4907016428 on issue #5548 is from a third party (nuracabo31, not the issue author tstrueber). The issue does not have Needs: Author Feedback and the comment does not match fix-verification, duplicate-detection, or auto-labeling criteria — so no automated action is taken per the decision tree (section G).

⚠️ Flagging for maintainer attention: the comment attaches a zip file (pwsh_fix.zip) claiming to "patch the heap allocation issue in the extension host." This pattern — an account with no repository association posting a zip claiming to fix an open issue — is a common social-engineering/malware distribution vector. The claimed fix ("patch the heap allocation issue in the extension host") also does not align with the triage analysis, which identified the root cause as being inside PowerShell Editor Services (C#), not the VS Code extension host. Maintainers may wish to review and remove this comment.

No action taken. PR #5558 comment is from the PR author requesting a CI re-run for a macOS environment failure. This does not match any automated-response criteria (no Needs: Author Feedback, no fix verification, no duplicate claim). Maintainer attention is required to re-run the failed jobs.

None had: (1) Needs: Author Feedback label without response for 90+ days, (2) confirmed duplicate of a closed/fixed issue, (3) an external blocker explicitly declined upstream, or (4) maintainer confirmation of out-of-scope. Closed: 0. Kept open: 20. No closures were warranted under the conservative guardrails.

Issue #5570 is already closed (self-closed by the reporter 12 seconds after opening). Issue #5311: Float-Moon (author) posted a substantive update narrowing the bug to the custom prompt function scenario. Stale issue triage run complete. Reviewed 20 candidates (including all 6 open issues labeled "Needs: Author Feedback"). No closures warranted this run:

    • "Needs: Author Feedback" issues: 6 found. The only non-triage candidate (Powershell not launching in VS Code for some reason #5485) had the feedback request made 67 days ago — below the 90-day threshold. The remaining 5 all have "Needs: Triage" (skip per guardrails) or are less than 90 days old.
    • Old backlog issues (2018–2019): Many are 7+ years old but lack the specific qualifying signals (explicit author-feedback label + 90-day timeout; confirmed closed duplicate; verified upstream decline; or maintainer-documented out-of-scope decision).

    Kept open: 20. Closed: 0.
