🎯 Changes

Fixes #2424.

form.resetField() only wrote a value back when the resolved default was not undefined. For an optional field whose default is undefined (set explicitly, or because its key is missing from defaultValues), the field meta was reset but the current value stayed. isDefaultValue remained false and the result disagreed with form.reset().

This is a regression from #2006 (@tanstack/form-core@1.32.0), which replaced the this.options.defaultValues ? … : prev.values guard with targetValue !== undefined. That made "the default is undefined" indistinguishable from "no default exists".

resetField now decides whether a default exists from its sources (a field-level defaultValue or form-level defaultValues) instead of from the resolved value. A field-level default still takes priority over the form-level one, and that now includes a field-level null: the target was resolved with ??, so null fell through to the form-level default. A form without defaultValues and without a field-level default still keeps the current value, as the existing tests require.

New tests cover form-level defaults of undefined, null, '', false, 0 and a defined value, a key missing from defaultValues, nested and array item fields, field-level defaults when defaultValues is not provided, and a field-level null default with and without defaultValues.

🚀 Release Impact

  • This change affects published code, and I have generated a changeset.
  • This change is docs/CI/dev-only (no release).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • form.resetField() now restores fields to their configured defaults, including undefined, null, empty strings, false, and zero. Field-level defaults take precedence over form-level defaults.
    • When no default is configured, resetting a field leaves its current value unchanged. Resets also preserve sibling values in nested objects and arrays.

resetField skipped the value update whenever the resolved default was
undefined, treating "the default is undefined" as "no default exists".
The field meta was reset while the field kept its current value.

Decide whether a default exists from its sources (a field-level
defaultValue or form-level defaultValues) instead of from the resolved
value, so optional fields are reset to undefined again.

resetField selects a field-level default when it is not undefined; otherwise, it selects the form-level default. It writes the target when a field default or form-level defaultValues is configured. Tests cover nullish, falsy, missing, nested, array, and field-level defaults, as well as field metadata. A patch changeset documents the behavior.

resetField resolved its target with `fieldDefault ?? formDefault`, so a
field-level defaultValue of null fell through to the form-level default.
Without defaultValues the field was reset to undefined instead of null,
which disagreed with form.reset().

Only fall back to the form-level default when the field-level default
is undefined.

Note on checks: locally pnpm test:pr passes for everything except root:test:knip, which reports unlisted @vue/runtime-core / @vue/reactivity dependencies from packages/vue-form/dist/cjs/*.d.cts. It fails the same way without my latest change, and this branch doesn't touch vue-form or knip.json, so I believe it is unrelated to this PR.
