Delaunay needs exact LP dot products for vectors longer than its square-basis dispatch limit and provisional pivot-column selection for rectangular affine constraints. This adds both operations with explicit numerical and shape contracts.
Add borrowed RationalVector::dot and the checked rational_dot slice adapter under exact. Results are canonical rationals, with no binary64 intermediate or runtime length cap; unequal lengths and zero denominators retain typed errors.
Add allocation-free, const-generic column_basis<R, C> and ColumnBasis<R, C>. Columns are selected in ascending order with deterministic partial row pivoting and a caller-supplied absolute tolerance. The returned numerical rank is provisional and requires separate exact certification.
Add prelude exports, mathematical documentation, a 6D exact-certification example, adversarial and property tests, and two independently checked benchmark suites. Coverage includes 8×14 LP constraints and 14-/22-entry objective vectors.
Validation:
just check, Markdown and spelling checks passed.
All local just ci stages completed: 281 Python tests and 1,078 Rust tests passed, with both doctest configurations, Clippy, static analysis, benchmark compilation, and runnable examples. Rust stages were resumed after correcting crate-documentation ordering in the exact-only test file.
All 55 column-basis and 54 rational-dot benchmark cases completed with analytical fixture checks. These were short diagnostic samples; no comparative performance claim is made.
- Add borrowed RationalVector dot products and a shape-checked rational_dot
slice adapter without a runtime dimension cap or binary64 intermediates.
- Select rectangular column bases with explicit absolute tolerances,
deterministic partial pivoting, and provisional numerical rank.
- Document exact certification boundaries and Delaunay workflows through 6D,
with representative benchmarks and independent rational identities.
- Validate with 1,078 Rust tests, 281 Python tests, both doctest configurations,
and 109 diagnostic benchmark cases; complete all CI validation stages.

Walkthrough
The PR adds rectangular column selection with an explicit absolute tolerance and exact rational dot products for fixed-size vectors and runtime slices. It also adds tests, benchmarks, public exports, and documentation for both APIs.
Adds ColumnBasis and column_basis. The selector scans columns in input order, uses partial row pivoting, and accepts pivots only above the absolute tolerance. It returns increasing column indices and provisional numerical rank. It reports non-finite inputs or updates as errors.
Selector tests and benchmarks tests/column_basis.rs, benches/column_basis.rs, Cargo.toml, docs/BENCHMARKING.md, docs/code_organization.md
Adds tests for shapes, tolerance, scaling, ordering, errors, and affine constraints. Adds Criterion cases that check expected columns before timing.

Dot-product APIs and documentation src/rational.rs, src/lib.rs, README.md, REFERENCES.md, docs/mathematical_basis.md, docs/code_organization.md
Adds RationalVector::dot and the rational_dot slice adapter. The adapter checks lengths before denominators, then checks left operands before right operands. Both APIs compute exact sums of products.
Dot-product tests and benchmarks tests/rational_dot.rs, tests/proptest_rational.rs, benches/rational_dot.rs, Cargo.toml, justfile, tests/tooling/test_performance_workflow.py
Adds identity, cancellation, large-coefficient, shape, denominator, and property tests. Adds benchmarks for prepared vectors and the checked slice adapter. The workflow command timeout is set to 900 seconds.
acgetchell/la-stack issue 311: The PR implements the exact dot-product and rectangular column-basis capabilities listed as v0.5.2 release scope. Release publication and verification remain separate.
acgetchell/delaunay issue 655: The new column_basis API supports the planned replacement of Delaunay’s local rectangular elimination. Downstream adoption remains separate.
acgetchell/la-stack issue 306: The new column_basis API provides rectangular selection with explicit tolerance, deterministic ordering, and provisional numerical rank.
acgetchell/delaunay issue 654: The new exact dot-product APIs support the planned replacement of Delaunay’s local rational reduction. Downstream adoption remains separate.
acgetchell/la-stack issue 305: The PR adds RationalVector::dot and the checked rational_dot adapter for exact rational dot products.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "feat: add exact dot products and rectangular column selection" names the two main additions in this PR: the exact rational dot product (RationalVector::dot and the rational_dot adapter) and the rectangular column selection (column_basis and ColumnBasis). The raw summary and objectives both confirm these as the primary changes, which also close #305 and #306. The title is specific and concise, and it follows a conventional commit prefix. It does not mention docs, benchmarks, or the timeout tweak, which is expected for a title.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
The PR meets the coding requirements for both active issues. For #305, RationalVector::dot and rational_dot provide exact canonical results, borrowing, length checks, denominator checks, and no runtime dimension cap. Tests and benchmarks cover cancellation, non-dyadic values, large values, and Delaunay-sized vectors. For #306, column_basis provides const-generic rectangular selection with deterministic partial pivoting, explicit absolute tolerance, finite-value checks, provisional rank, and ordered unique columns. Tests cover required shapes, scaling, near dependence, permutations, known ranks, exact checks, and the six-dimensional case. Documentation and benchmarks are included.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain within #305 and #306. The APIs, exports, documentation, examples, tests, benchmarks, and validation updates support the linked objectives. The workflow timeout change supports the required repository validation and does not add unrelated product behavior. No unrelated implementation change is evident.
